I was a bubbly person looking to conquer the world last weekend, and excited about moving house and getting all settled in. This weekend, I’m in that house, but I’m also surrounded by all the papers I’m supposed to be reading! In any case, I’ve been forced to rethink my semester’s plans, so a DC trip might have to wait till, oh, say, next semester?
Summary of the week:
So,
On Monday, met the person who does my finances,
and pleased at the stipend I was gonna get
On Tuesday, met the supes who assign me work,
and horrored at the work I was given
Wednesday, met my seniors who give me help,
and relieved when everyone said it’d be fine
On Thursday, met more seniors for lunch,
and elated at all the angels I’d find
On Friday, I met myself,
in my room, holed up and contemplated life my readings.
That said, my room is a great place to be in! My room mate, John (an astrophysicist PhD student, which sort of makes him the Larry Fleindhart in Numb3rs and me, the Charlie Epps) finds it a small place, but then he’s an American. My room is at least twice the size of a PGP room! and there’s still a living room and a kitchen in the apartment! And I have my own toilet!! All that is like, amazing ha. My pictures are on Facebook, but I guess I’ll post some here as well!
My apartment would probably sell for a lot back home in Singapore. Its practically a condo:
- on the 8th floor with a view of the city (which I’ve not taken a shot of).
- Rooftop pool
- Indoor gym
- Computer Lab, Conference Room, Lounges
- Game rooms equipped with pool tables and ping pong tables!
And that’s just within the apartment!
Outside the apartment:
- Metro within 5min walk
- Target right across the street (and visible from my window)
- Movie theatre across the street!
- Macy’s, JC Penny, and all sorts of food and stuff within 5min!
Now, this doesn’t seem like a lot if you’re in, like, Manhattan, but its HUGE in Maryland. Even the school shuttle bus stops right outside my apartment, so I know I won’t get too wet.
And speaking of wet, I got really wet last Friday as I was walking back to my hotel from school. You know the kind of wet you get when you jump into a swimming pool with all your clothes on? WETTER. The rain just started pouring from nowhere, and I was stuck in the middle, about half a mile from school and half a mile from the hotel, with NOTHING in between. I. Just. Walked. Well, it was fun for a bit, cause it was a drizzle. It was even liberating to know that I didn’t have any responsibilities at the time, and I could do anything I wanted with my time that day. So I skipped along. Until the cars decided to splash water on me. Ouch. That was painful. And wet. And probably dirty. RAWR. Then I had to traverse an OCEAN to get from where I was to where I wanted to be.
In any case, I managed to survive. So that’s good. Now I need to introduce my two furry friends while I’m here in Maryland! On the left, is Clover the INCREDIBLE HULK, which was given to me by my friends in Tabeem. I’m gonna try to bring it around with me when I bring my camera, so you know that I actually went to the place when I take pictures. I like how its small and travel-friendly. On the right is my friend from way back, christened TBBT by Mr Erwin Teo. I think TBBT needs shades to toughen his image a little. Now he just looks. Stoned.
Oh thats my living room that they’re blocking by the way. My roommate brought the TV and there’s an Xbox!! Oh. Anyone who comes can sleep on the sofa!! Its really quite comfortable. Or you can choose to sleep on the carpet in my room, which isn’t too shabby either. In any case, the apartment looks big enough to hold like tonnes of people, so don’t worry about accommodation if you want to visit! Oh and if you guys really wanna see more photos of Clover the HULK and TBBT, got to my facebook. But you already knew that, didn’t you?
