Things have turned out pretty alright after all. I’ve lots of things to be glad about this week.

The first is i managed to get a more decent timetable after all. Now my weeks are going to look like this:

BMO6001 Seminar in Organization Behavior Tues 9-12

IT1004 Introduction to E Commerce Wed 2pm-4pm

BSP4513 Econometrics: Theory and Practical Business Application Thurs 9-12

Yes there’s a level 6 module in there. I’m doing this in addition to a USP ISM, my honors thesis, and university applications. The only drawback to this schedule is I have 2 early days, but that helps me get started earlier during the day anyway.

Yes, I’m applying for graduate school. The second thing I’m happy about is my score for the GMAT exam that I took on Wednesday. I received a score of 750, which places me in the 98th percentile of all people who have taken the test. I am feeling irrationally superior right now ha.

The third is finally participating in rag, an event held annually in NUS where the different faculties and halls build floats and give a performance in conjunction with National Day. My USP friends have been badgering me for 4 years, and I finally chipped in my share this year. I’ve made many new friends and strengthened old bonds, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself, although i still hate the many late nights. Oh well. Its over now, just like how the army is over ha.

For some weird reason, I’m really looking forward to the year ahead. I’m anticipating lots of fun, lots of hard work, and immense satisfaction. I’m teetering on the edge of a first class honors, but i don’t feel that much pressure. I hope my bliss lasts.

I am freaking pissed off.

This would have been such a nice timetable:

IT1004 Introduction to E Commerce Fri 10am-12noon

BSP4513 Econometrics: Theory and Practical Business Application Thurs 9am-12noon

BSP3001 Business Policy and Strategy Thurs 3-6

3 modules and a 2 day week! Woo-hoo!

But no, Business School decided that bidding for modules with points is no longer the way to go. My 1500 program account points and 3300 general account points should be left in the system to rot, and we should go the way of pre-allocated modules! And we’re giving out all the slots! If you didn’t participate in the pre-allocation exercise, then it just sucks to be you.

And now, because it just sucks to be me, I can’t get BSP3001, and my timetable is going to look like this:

IT1004 Introduction to E Commerce Wed 2pm-4pm

BSP4513 Econometrics: Theory and Practical Business Application Thurs 9am-12noon

UNL2206 Nature’s Threads Tue 12noon-2pm and Fri 11am – 1pm

3 modules and a 4 day week! Woo-hoo! I love school!

RAWR.

Maybe Biz should take some lessons from USP, and do pre-allocation properly.

  • First, let me choose exactly which time slot I am pre-allocated. I don’t want to be randomly given Thurs 3-6, Thurs 12-3, Friday 3-6. I need to plan for other modules too, especailly those from other faculties!
  • Second, if you’re not going to let me choose which time slot I get, then don’t allocate ALL the freaking places! I see the pre-allocation as a choice between spending 1 bid point and getting randomly tossed about, or choosing to go the proper way and spending 1000 bid points. Now I don’t have that choice anymore!

Postscript: I assure you that NUS School of Business is a great place to be, and I will be thankful for all the memories, friends and knowledge I have gained since coming here. Just this once, though, I am damn pissed off. If someone would kindly point out these points to the admin, maybe it’ll save the juniors some angst in the future.
